How to make BBQ Chicken Wings


When it comes to the simplest and quickest BBQ feast, we think of nothing except delicious BBQ chicken wings.

The simple, delicious BBQ chicken recipe takes few simple ingredients although best served with BBQ it is flexible to be cooked in the oven. Just get the chicken sear under the broiler till the skin is brown, and then roast it in the oven till the meat is fully tender if not on the BBQ. Usually, a BBQ sauce is used as a quick marinade in this recipe since it helps improve the flavors and chicken’s tenderness. The BBQ sauce penetrates the skin and completely caramelizes during cooking. Some people like to cook BBQ chicken on a metal rack on the baking sheet since it enables heat and air flow on all the sides. This also prevents chicken’s skin to be soggy.

BBQ chicken recipe uses chicken wings, but you can also make it a blend of thighs, legs and even breasts. For having the optimum flavors, it is recommended to go for the deep meat cuts.

The recipe shared here is flexible to include any sauce of your choice, including thick, mustard-based sauce or tomato sauce. You are free to use your flavors. For this recipe, I have used home-made tomato BBQ sauce that I made with little sugar and vinegar. It gives an extraordinarily sweet and sour flavor to the grilled chicken.

So, here is the delicious BBQ recipe, that you must try in your next BBQ party. It is very easy and perfect for diet conscious people also.

Simply Delicious BBQ chicken

Prep time: 5 minutes

Cook time: 40 minutes (slow and low is the way to go over indirect heat)

Yield: Serves 6-8


  • 24 Chicken Wings (you can use the whole chicken if you wish)
  • Salt, pepper, garlic, cayenne, brown sugar, Paprika, Chilli flakes.
  • Barbecue sauce: either home-made or ready-made: 1 cup


Wash, dry, and season the wings and rub with your mixture of salt, pepper, garlic, cayenne, brown sugar, Paprika, Chilli flakes.

What you need for a homemade Sauce

  1. cups ketchup.
  2. 1/2 cup apple cider vinegar
  3. 1 cup water
  4. 5 tablespoons light brown sugar.
  5. 5 tablespoons sugar.
  6. 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  7. 1/2 tablespoon Chilli flakes
  8. 1/2 tablespoon fresh ground black pepper
  9. 1/2 tablespoon onion powder.
  10. 1/2 tablespoon ground mustard

In a saucepan, mix all ingredients. Bring to a boil, reduce heat to simmer. Cook uncovered, stirring frequently, for 1 hour and 15 minutes.


Take a bowl and coat all chicken pieces with the rub. Do not use oil on the chicken this prevents the skin from crisping. prepare one side of the grill for direct heat. Keep the other side cool with no coal. Place the chicken pieces, skinned side down, on the hot grill and cook for 10 minutes. Once the chicken is seared, move it to the grill’s another side. Keep the temperature of the frill in between 250 F and 275 F and let the chicken be cooked on the cool side, covered, for 20 / 30  minutes.

Once done BBQ sauce over chicken pieces and shake them up. Cook for 10 minutes again to caramelize the sauce and crisp the skin Serve the delicious BBQ chicken hot, coated with BBQ sauce.

And you can easily increase the recipe size for a bigger gathering. Just make sure to keep little space between each piece of chicken and work in small batches, if needed.
